This policy explains what information BucketMath (bucketmath.com) collects when you use the site, how it is used, and the choices you have. If you have a question about it, email bucketmath1@gmail.com.
The short version
- You do not need an account to use BucketMath.
- Our calculators run in your browser. The numbers you type are not sent to us or stored.
- We use Google Analytics to see which pages people use, and our host keeps standard server logs.
- We do not sell your personal information.
Information we collect
Information you send us
If you email us, we receive your email address, your name if you include it, and whatever you write. We use it only to reply and to fix any error you report.
Calculator inputs
Measurements, prices and other values you enter in a BucketMath calculator are processed by code running in your own browser. They are not sent to our server and we do not store them.
Information collected automatically
- Server logs. Our hosting provider, Hostinger, records standard request data such as IP address, browser type, the page requested and the time. This is used to run and secure the site.
- Analytics. We use Google Analytics 4. It collects information such as the pages you view, how you arrived at the site, your device and browser type, and an approximate location derived from your IP address. Google Analytics sets cookies (named
_gaand_ga_followed by an ID) to tell visits apart. - Comments. If comments are open on a post and you leave one, WordPress stores the name, email address and website you enter, plus your IP address and browser user agent, to help detect spam. An anonymized string made from your email address may be sent to the Gravatar service to show a profile picture.
How we use information
- To answer your questions and correct errors you report.
- To keep the site running, secure and free of spam.
- To understand which calculators and guides are useful, so we can improve them.
Cookies
Cookies are small files a website stores in your browser. BucketMath uses Google Analytics cookies as described above. WordPress also sets cookies for logged-in site editors and, if you leave a comment, to remember your details. If advertising is added (see below), advertising partners may set cookies too.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. The site and its calculators still work without them.
Third-party services
| Service | What it does | Privacy policy |
|---|---|---|
| Google Analytics | Measures site usage | Google Privacy Policy |
| Google Fonts | Delivers one of the site’s typefaces; your browser requests it from Google’s servers, which receive your IP address | Google Privacy Policy |
| Hostinger | Hosts the website and its server logs; a Hostinger Reach script for email sign-up forms loads on our pages | Hostinger Privacy Policy |
Google explains how it uses data from sites that use its services at How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services. Our pages also link to other websites, such as equipment manufacturers and our sources. Those sites have their own privacy policies.
Advertising
BucketMath is free to read. We plan to support it with display advertising, including Google AdSense. When ads are running on the site:
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites.
- Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the internet.
- You can opt out of personalized advertising in Google Ads Settings, or opt out of some third-party vendors’ use of cookies for personalized advertising at aboutads.info.
If we use an ad network other than Google, we will name it here.
Sharing and selling
We do not sell your personal information. We share information only with the service providers listed above so they can run their services for us, or when the law requires it.
How long we keep information
We keep emails for as long as we need them to answer you and keep a record of corrections. Google Analytics data is kept for the retention period set in our Analytics account. Server logs are kept by Hostinger under its own retention rules.
Your choices and rights
- Block or delete cookies in your browser settings.
- Stop Google Analytics from collecting your visits with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
- Depending on where you live, including several US states and the EU and UK, you may have the right to ask what personal information we hold about you, to correct or delete it, and to opt out of its sale or use for targeted advertising. Email bucketmath1@gmail.com to make a request. We will not treat you differently for making one.
Children
BucketMath is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, email us and we will delete it.
Security
The site is served over HTTPS. No website can guarantee complete security, but we keep the information we hold to a minimum.
Changes to this policy
When we change how the site handles information, for example when advertising is added, we will update this page and the effective date at the top.
